
Xiaoliang Jin

Biography
Dr. Xiaoliang Jin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he also holds the Canada Research Chair in Advanced Manufacturing. He received his B.Eng. and M.A.Sc. degrees from Beihang University in China and obtained his Ph.D. from UBC. Dr. Jin’s research centers on advanced manufacturing processes, particularly the machining of high-performance materials such as high-strength metal alloys and composites. His areas of expertise include vibration-assisted machining, micro-machining, and metal-based additive manufacturing. His research group develops analytical and data-driven process models, conducts in-depth experimental investigations to uncover fundamental process mechanisms, and formulates planning and control strategies aimed at enhancing efficiency and part quality. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering and the Journal of Manufacturing Processes.
